PRESS RELEASE

Dollyhotdogs: Illustrating the vibrant beauty of the UK’s coast and countryside

The flora, fauna and sea life of the UK’s coast and countryside parade larger than life
and in glorious colour across Dollyhotdogs’ bold and beautiful gifts and homeware.
From an array of artichokes on a tea towel to a school of sardines on an enamel
mug, artist/illustrator Michelle Fisher (whose childhood nickname was Dollyhotdogs)
depicts the natural world in all its glory. Her intricate and vibrant designs encompass
bees and butterflies, mackerel and mussels, thistles, pheasants, hares and more.
Michelle’s unique style arises from a combination of her travels around the world and
her passion for nature, animals and the sea. ‘I’ve been obsessed with colour and
pattern since I was a child,’ she says. ‘In my twenties I spent two years travelling all
over Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, which was inspirational and life changing,
and when I returned I did a degree in illustration at Sussex University. After spells in
rural France and then Brighton, I now live near the sea in Devon, where you’ll often
find me beachcombing and collecting shells and seaweed.’
Michelle worked as a freelance Illustrator for editorial, packaging and the greetings
card industry, before taking a break to concentrate on her young family. Having
started designing again, she began selling her greetings cards at local markets, and
in 2016 founded Dollyhotdogs with friend and business partner Kate Batchelor, who
has a background in marketing and business development. They quickly established
a successful wholesale and online business, expanding to textiles, tableware,
notebooks and art prints, and have since opened two bricks-and-mortar shops, in
Axminster and Lyme Regis.
Essential to the Dollyhotdogs ethos is ethical and environmental responsibility. All
products are designed and produced in the UK, and textiles are made using natural
and unbleached cotton from a mill which is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative.
Placemats and chopping boards are made with FSC-certified and sustainably
sourced eucalyptus board. The business has a no-plastics packaging policy and
reduces waste whenever possible. ‘We took time when selecting our products and

suppliers to make sure that we had high-quality products that we could be proud of,’
says Michelle.
Prices range from £3.50 for a coaster to £38 for a glass worktop saver.
